As the name suggests, it’s about the things outside the website or webpage. It’s about what people talk about your content in the outside world – on social media, different PR pages (maybe), and other types of backlinks you get for your webpage. More on this later in the article.

  • Technical SEO:

Technical SEO focuses on the website’s backend architecture, like the code. It is crucial because the search engines care about it as much as the audience. It helps decide the Domain Authority (DA), backlinks, and social shares.

How to make a killer SEO strategy for 2023?

Let’s look at a step-by-step procedure to create a fantastic SEO Strategy for 2023.

Step 1: Goal-Setting

Business owners want to scale and succeed in all areas. It is understandable. But to create any good strategy, you need to have clearly defined goals.

It means choosing 1-3 key metrics for your goals, defining them, creating a detailed plan to achieve them, executing it, and analysing the efforts to understand where you can optimise to reach that ideal number.

Step 2: Competitor Analysis

Understanding what’s working in the market can save you time and improve your efforts. That’s why competitor analysis is necessary. It helps you understand what your audience already likes in the industry and why they like it.

What should I look for in my competitors?

  • Organic search rankings
  • Online reviews
  • Blog strategy and Social media
  • Backlinks
  • Page load speed and User experience
  • Site health and Mobile-friendliness.

You can use tools like Ubersuggest.com to analyse the domain of your competitors.

Competitor Analysis is not equivalent to plagiarism, so one must be wary of the myths around the term.

Step 3: Keyword Optimisation

Keywords are the terms you use in the website copy. For example, in this blog, a few keywords are “killer SEO strategy,” “SEO strategy,” “SEO,” “SEO strategy for 2023,” etc.

Obviously, the more frequently the keywords appear on a website, the higher the search rankings. But it doesn’t mean that I will stuff the entire article with these keywords (called Keyword Stuffing)

Search engines have become smarter with time and now give more importance to value addition. A keyword shouldn’t appear more than once in a 200-word copy, i.e., 0.5% times.

Also, think about the Search Intent, i.e., “What would my audience put in as a search query to find this piece – blog/website copy, that I’m writing?”

Step 4: Link Building/Backlinking

Link Building is when other pages on the internet add a link to your webpage. The linker could be a webpage from a different website or another page of your website.

India had 1.2 billion mobile subscribers in 2021, out of which 750 million are smartphone users. (1) Mobile SEO will ensure you don’t miss out on that huge market.

In fact, Google is using a mobile-first indexing strategy, meaning Google will first rank your website for the mobile version before the desktop version.

You need to keep in mind only some additional factors besides the ones mentioned above, like monitoring page speed, responsive website design, etc.

Step 6: Compress your Media Files

Why?

Because as the business and website grow, you’ll have more and more media files.

Compressing them saves space and the bandwidth they consume for loading, thereby improving the site speed.

It’s useful for both desktop and mobile as people prefer faster-loading websites. A good rule of thumb is to keep the file size in KBs (Kilobytes).

It’s time to measure the metrics decided in the first step. Track these 1-3 key metrics consistently, analyse if your strategy is working, and find out what is working and what isn’t.

  • Why is something not getting results? Is the strategy incorrect, or am I not executing it properly? Has it worked for others in the past?
  • How can I make it better? How can I improve the search engine rankings?
