HNIs are often classified as those with investable assets over a particular amount, such as bonds and equities. A person with a high net worth holds liquid assets, such as money in brokerage accounts or banks, but not assets such as a principal dwelling, durable goods, or collectibles. At least $1 million in liquid financial assets, excluding personal assets such as a principal residence, is the most generally reported threshold for qualifying as a high-net-worth individual.
