Investment Bankers’ compensation have a fixed salary and a variable salary component. As an (pre-MBA) analyst working with the bulge brackets (Goldman, JPMC, Morgan Stanley), you would be getting around 12-14 lpa as a fixed salary plus a bonus ranging from 2-4 lakhs which would depend on a lot of factors including which division are you a part of (M&A, ECM, DCM) and the number of deals you worked on. These numbers are usually for the back/mid office roles, and most front office Investment Banking profiles are only open for the MBAs in India… Boutiques and other firms (Big4, tier 2 banks etc) pay slightly less base while the bonus is relatively similar. Few boutiques in India do have a higher total compensation, reason being the type of deals that they focus on.
