What is it like to be a product manager ?
A product manager is someone who looks after the development, positioning and pricing of a product. He is responsible for managing the entire product life cycle single handedly in the organisation. Thus, All the success of a product in the market is credited to the product manager. However, he has to also take responsibility for all the shortcomings and failures related to the product. He is the person in charge of communicating the idea of the product to the target customer and delivering the finished product on time.
It is also said that the product manager represents the consumers in the organisation. He is the force behind recognising the needs, wants and desires of the consumers and converting them into new product ideas and services. He has the task of protecting the consumer interest and ensuring consumer satisfaction to the highest possible level.
Given that a product manager has so many responsibilities to cater to, the job profile is quite demanding. You really have to work hard and with a determined attitude with all your focus centred on the product you are working for. You need to have a proper schedule to ensure completion of all necessary tasks on a daily basis. The rewards for a product manager in the form of salary, respect and status are quite decent. You will be able to ensure a good lifestyle and standard of living along with acquiring job satisfaction.
