Hello Shivangi Mam, I want to ask that in Finance, is it advisable to stick to same profile throughout your career or we should diversify profile
Specializing in your job and keeping current on it’s trends and changes is important. However, there is a lot of information out there that can be overwhelming or confusing to understand. By looking into the future and seeing what jobs will be available, you can make choices that will help your career stay relevant during this time when technology and industries are constantly changing. Choosing to narrow down your skill set may seem daunting, but it can actually be one of the most effective ways to increase your career opportunities. Sure, sometimes you may need to hire someone with those skills but there are tons of jobs out there that require a generalist or at least someone who can quickly pick up new roles easily. However, it is one's choice. It all comes to use your skillset in the best way possible. For example, if you are a graphic designer, there could be an opportunity for you to create more than just logos, brochures, business cards and flyers. You might be able to flex your ability into other areas such as print sale sheets or reports. Would it be worth it? That is totally dependent on whether or not you would prefer doing this instead of continuing with graphic designing in your current role as that would mean stepping up from one position to another in a very short space of time. One of the most common inquiries we receive from someone who is looking for the next step in their career path is, “Should I diversify or specialize my skills set?” It’s a tough question to answer because there are differences, benefits, and disadvantages to both options. Let’s go over what it means to specialize or diversify and cover some pros and cons of both of these career path options. What It Means to “Specialize” Specializing in your occupation means that you’ve chosen a very specific area of expertise. For instance, you’re in marketing but you specialize in SEO, email marketing, or content management. Furthermore, specialization means you’d be performing in one of these areas of expertise explicitly. Looking into the future, it’s important to note that specialized workers often become high-level consultants. There are pros and cons to specializing and/or becoming a consultant: What It Means to “Diversify” Choosing diversified roles in your career means that you will “wear many hats” when it comes to the job duties you perform. You might even be considered a “generalist” – i.e. you write web copy, manage content, run PPC campaigns, and more. If your goal is to move up the corporate ladder, then you’ll want to diversify your skills because leaders generally need to have knowledge in many areas. However, there are also pros and cons to choosing the option to diversify your career: Important Factors to Consider So now that you have more information on specializing and diversifying your chosen career path, there are a few things to keep in mind before choosing which option is best for you: What are your earning goals? How would you tolerate risk in your career? What is your desire for control over your schedule and work/life balance? Do you have a desire to lead/manage or do you prefer to be solely accountable for your work?

Hi Mamta, it is great to first establish yourself in mainstream finance by excelling in it. After that if you want to search for more options in the same field, that will be a great idea too. Diversifying your profile will not be hard once you have proven as well as handled major projects and clients in mainstream finance.
